Dr. Hellström is Associate Professor in Packaging Logistics in the Department of Design Sciences at the Faculty of Engineering LTH, Lund University. In addition, he is the Research Director of ReLog at Campus Helsingborg and involved in the Centre for Retail Research at Lund University, an interdisciplinary centre of excellence. He holds a PhD and an MSc from Lund University.
As an academic, Dr. Hellström’s research coalesces under the broad umbrella of Packaging Logistics. His research can be categorised into two main interconnected research streams: one relating to reverse logistics/closed-loop supply chains, and the other to environmentally responsible packaging design/supply chain practices. Much of his work has been conducted in close cooperation with companies and in an international environment. His research has been published in the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review, Journal of Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Logistics: Research and Applications, Journal of Business Research, International Journal of Retail and Distribution Management, Packaging Technology and Science, as well as in several other peer-reviewed international publications. He has received awards for his research and is the co-author of the book Managing Packaging Design for Sustainable Development.
Dr. Hellström was taught several Master’s courses at Lund University, including Packaging Logistics (MTTN35) and Applied Logistics Simulation (MTTN55). He has been accepted into LTH’s Pedagogical Academy and awarded the distinction of Excellent Teaching Practitioner (ETP). As Director of Studies at Packaging Logistics, he is devoted to continuously developing and ensuring the quality of the first- and second-cycle education programmes. Moreover, he is Programme Director at Lund University for the Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus + Joint European Master Programme: Food Innovation and Product Design (FIPDes).
